Since it was established in 1967, the Museum Trust has collected artefacts connected to the history of fishing from all around the coast of Scotland, as well as from the Western and Northern Isles. The entire collection cared for by the Scottish Fisheries Museum is a Recognised Collection of National Significance, awarded by Museums Galleries Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

A little bit more information about the Scottish Fisheries Museum Trust Ltd
Three of the Museum's boats - Reaper, Research and Lively Hope - are recognised as being of national significance by the National Register of Historic Ships and are included in the National Historic Fleet. The current interest in coastal rowing was initiated by the Museum through its commissioning of the St Ayles Skiff and we have an active boat restoration workshop.
