Take the bus from Edinburgh to Bo’ness

Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway has been working in partnership with a local bus company to improve the service to the site.

If you live in Edinburgh or are holidaying in the area, how about using the Bo’ness and Area Community Bus to visit us on weekdays and Saturdays and leave the car at home. The bus runs from Edinburgh Waterloo Place to Bo’ness with stops in between and then back.

You can catch the C19 bus from Waterloo Place (opposite the Apex Waterloo Hotel) in the centre of Edinburgh to Bo’ness at 10.15, enjoy a comfortable ride to Bo’ness, arriving at the bus station at 11.27. If you tell your driver you are visiting the Railway and Museum they can drop you at Bo’ness Station where you should buy your ticket at the Booking Office for the 12.10 steam train. Refreshments, including locally brewed real ale, are available to purchase on the train which is a return journey and gets back to Bo’ness at 13.14. The cost for the steam train is £10 Adults, £9 Concessions, £6 Child with under 5s free and a Family ticket for £28 (2ad and up to 3 children).

Then you can take in the Museum of Scottish Railways (£2 extra for adults and concessions, free for children) or browse in the gift shop and enjoy a bite to eat in the Station Buffet before you head back to the bus station (5 minutes walk from Bo’ness Station) for the bus which leaves at 14.30 getting you back to Edinburgh at 15.42.

The return bus fare is only £8.50 for adults, with children age 5-16 paying ½ that and National Concessionary Cards are free. It is recommended you book your seat in advance on the bus.
