- Description
'The Pier at Cove - Loch Long', framed oil painting by F.C B. Cadell. Cadell is one of the four artists known as the Scottish Colourists, who all spent their time in France early on in their careers and had direct contact with French painting.
They often used bright colours and pronounced brushwork in their paintings and are recognised as being amongst the most important modern Scottish artists. This particular painting is one of Cadell's rare works which features a boat. The colour palette and technique are typical of his Iona works from the period 1933-4. This could indicate that Cadell possibly stayed near Cove on his way to/from his regular summer trip to Iona. This pier still exists although is now known as Kilcreggan Pier.
