Second World War and Holocaust project

We are delighted to be working on this partnership project on a national project developed by Imperial War Museums (IWM) until early 2023. The Scottish Fisheries Museum and the Devil’s Porridge Museum will be leading this project for the #GoIndustrial collective. This project will see our museums delivering a range of projects that uncover lesser-known stories in the Second World War.

Background

Alongside the opening of new Second World War and The Holocaust Galleries in 2021, IWM’s Second World War and Holocaust Partnership Programme (SWWHPP) will support eight cultural heritage partners across the UK to engage with new audiences and share hidden or lesser-known, local stories related to these histories. During 2020-23, the SWWHPP will establish a Digital Internship, support skills development in Partner organisations and facilitate loans of IWM’s rich collection across the UK in support of digital and community-based events co-produced with local people and creative artists. The SWWHPP is generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Our SWWHP project

We are pleased to be the Scottish partner on this national project, working closely with the Scottish Fisheries Museum in FIfe and the Devil’s Porridge Museum in Dumfries & Galloway. In early 2022 we will employ a Digital Intern to develop skills across the partnership. Later in 2022 we will carry our community sessions in Fife and Dumfries & Galloway with our lead partner museums. We will develop themes and select objects for online and real-life exhibitions, and develop these across the collective. Our communities will contribute to a totemic piece of artwork that will be displayed across the collective.
