- Title
Shrapnel
- Description
This piece of shrapnel sadly has no provenance in the Museum archive. The date July 19th, 1940, written on the piece suggests it was either found on this date or stems from a crash or bombing raid from this period. After Axis attacks, local areas would be flooded with small pieces of shrapnel like this, that would either be collected by onlookers or would sink in the ground. In the Fife News Almanac 1934-1941, there is a small entry reporting that bombs did not start falling on the East Neuk of Fife until summer 1940. This places this piece of shrapnel within this period and means it may stem from a bombing raid of from summer 1940.
