Emperor penguin, collected as a specimen during the Terra Nova Expedition 1910-1912 it has been preserved in a showcase and mounted on an artificial ice base. The Discovery expedition 1901-1904 had been the first expedition to sight an Emperor Penguin rookery and collected the first egg of the species. Emperor penguins are the world’s largest penguin and can stand over a metre high and weigh up to 40 kg. The label on case reads 'The Emperor Penguin A Souvenir of Captain Scott's Antarctic Expedition / 1911 - 1912/ Lent by Mr J.E. Heggs'.
