Description

One of very few surviving banners from the celebrations marking the passing of the 1831 Reform Bill. It was found in the attic of a North Lanarkshire shop. The shop beonged to a family who managed pits and ran truck sops in the 19th century. The banner depicts 'Caledonia'; the spirit of Scotland holding the cap of liberty - a symbol of democracy and freedom.
