Buily by Airdrie engineering firm at their Victoria Engine Works. It is the only surviving locomotive built in North Lanarkshire. The growth of the railways in the 19th century increased coal output. Coal could be transported much faster than by canal. Engineering companies, like Gibb & Hogg were quick to exploit the new market and built locomotives for the coal industry. The engine spent nearly all its working life at Loganlea Colliery in Midlothian.
